WEEK 1 WRAP UP
"Is there a Brees in here?" vs "THE REIGNING CHAMPION"
124-87
In a matchup of Superbowl winning QB's title player Drew Brees outplayed Big Ben, and the wide receiver team of Steve Smith and Kenny Britt combined for 58 points to torch "CHAMPS" and send a message to every team in the league that they are here to stay. The loss of Steven Jackson is worrisome however for "Brees in here", considering he posted 11 points on just 2 carries. With no true backup running back on the bench they will either hit the waiver wire this week or be looking to trade.
THE REiGNING CHAMPS did show some signs of life during the game with encouraging performances from Reggie Wayne and Matt Forte, but it wasn't nearly enough. Injuries at kicker and starting a terrible defense are two issues the "CHAMPS" will need to figure out before week 2.
"Value Picks" vs "Roddy Loves White Women"
77-57
Clearly a defensive battle, niether team could find their stride this week, with only 5 players combined in double digit points. Aaron Rodgers put da team on his back with the highest scoring performance of the game, scoring 11 more points for his team than "White Women"'s highest scorer Tim Hightower. "Value Pick"'s top two draft picks, Rodgers and Michael Turner, combined for 40 points while "White Women"'s top picks combined for only 8. There is not a lot of concern yet for either team as it's possible these players just haven't found their stride yet.
"Polar Gooks" vs "Rice In Ya Vag"
127-123
A nailbiter right down to the end, this game came down to 3 players in the last game of the week on monday night. Using a record tying field goal for Janikowski and McFadden's continuing dominance of the Bronco's, "Gooks" barely edged "Vag" in a battle for the most offensive team name in the league. The very strong team effort by "Polar Gooks" had every single player save for one with a double digit score. "Rice in Ya Vag" cannot be counted out however with explosive players like Phil Cheese, Ray Rice, Hakeem Nicks and Beanie Wells all posting fantastic numbers.
"Give Dem TD's 4 Thumbs Down" vs "jaquizz in my pants"
85-79
LeSean McCoy gave his best effort to try and pull this one out for "my pants" but his 27 points proved to be slightly too few. Somehow "Thumbs Down" pulled out a shocking 6 point win, and the only home win of the week, riding the coat tails of a 21 point defensive performance by the Ravens which included 3 interceptions, 4 sacks and 4 fumble recoveries. Defense aside it was a very disappointing showing for top pick Chris Johnson and fellow RB Jonathan Stewart, posting a combined 7 points.
Larry Fitzgerald also had trouble finding the ball, recording only 3 catches tallying 62 yards, although much of that can be attributed to Beanie Wells' big day running the ball against Carolina's pedestrian run defense, so expect to see more points from Larry in future games.
"Bad Newz Kennels" vs "Show Me Dat Oh Face"
87-87
It wouldn't be the fantasy season without a tie or two to fuck with the standings, and here we got ours out of the way in week 1. An intriguing matchup with two evenly matched teams pits the WR/WR draft strategy against QBRB/RB. Andre and Calvin scored 15 and 20 points respectively and were looked to early and often by their quarterbacks, both producing nice weeks. On the other side of the ball, Vick put up decent passing numbers but complimented that with 11 rushes for 97 yards. The sad part for "Kennels" is that he took two kneel downs to end the game that dropped him below the 100 yards rushing threshold, thus taking away 3 potential points that would have swung the game.
"Winter Is Coming" vs "Frankenstein's Fat Foot"
124-55
An unpredictable week for players on both teams, led in the end to the most one sided matchup of the week. Golden boy Tom Brady exploded for 517 passing yards, 5th most all time, and 4 touchdowns. One of those touchdowns was a 99 yard pass to Wes Welker, and the tandem finished the week combined for 63 points, single handedly winning the game for "Is Coming". A poor showing by "Fat Foot" is at least silver lined by the fact that 3 bench players combined to score 57 points, more than all their starters, in addition to the fact that the drafts number 1 overall pick remains sidelined with an injury. Perhaps we will see all four of those players in the lineup next week, giving this team an entirely different look.
Thats it for the wrap up, now for the first power rankings of the year:
