Colby Jacob's Power Rankings

1. Myself.

Back In Action

BOYS the blog is back. I plan to add everyone from the league on here as an author/contributor. This will be our place rant/rave/discuss/debate/generally hate on everyone else's team but your own. Laying in bed at 1 AM using compare players on Ben Revere, Juan Pierre and Peter Bourjos to decide who's the best add? WRITE ABOUT IT! Sitting at the bar alone sipping well whiskey and tearing up because you don't have an adequate SS and SP4? WRITE ABOUT THAT TOO! Anything and everything is good, and the more contributions the better. Hopefully this experiment can turn into a long term staple for both King$ Court baseball and football.

WEEK 5 POWER RANKS

It's been a year of parity so far with 7 teams sitting at either 3-2 or 2-3, all with their sights set on the playoffs.

1. Give Them TD's 4 Thumbs Down
They continue to dominate all of the competition every week. The league leader in points scored remains the only undefeated team and looks to keep the party going with Miles Austin's return this week.

2. Is there a Brees in Here?
Fifth in the league in scoring but 2nd in the standings, this 4-1 team will ride the consistency of Drew Brees, MJD and Dwayne Bowe straight to the playoffs.

3. Winter Is Coming
Leading the pack of 3-2 teams, Brady, Welker and the surprising Ryan Mathews have catapulted this team to 108 PPG. Despite failing to score 100 points for the first time this season, they remain second in the league in scoring and are only 17 total points behind 'TD's 4 Thumbs Down'.

4. Jacquizz in my Pants
This team just keeps moving up the rankings every week, and nothing has changed this week. They exploded in week 5 to outscore every other team by a significant margin using 7 different players scoring double digit points.

5. Polar Gooks
Still not giving up on this team even though they are under .500 right now at 2-3. They remain 3rd in the league in scoring at 105 PPG, so don't be discouraged by the lack of results recently.

6.Show me dat Oh Face
How good is Megatron? Every team in the league is jealous of the production Calvin's given this team so far this season and I can't see it slowing down soon.

7. Value Picks
Although they posted poor numbers this week, they're still riding the coat tails of their 141 point performance last week. It shows just how scary this team can be when Aaron Rodgers is on his game, which is every game.

8. THE REIGNING CHAMPION
Huge weeks out of Adrian Peterson, like this week, should become a semi-regular occurence for the rest of the season. Don't expect the same out of Big Ben though.

9. Rice in Ya Vag
Lost this week but Oh Face put up monstrous numbers and at least they got Ray Rice's bye out of the way. Look for this team to go on a little run in the next few weeks.

10. Accursed Grinder
Arian Foster has come off his injury playing like a first round back, which is encouraging. And if this team can pull out a few more wins while they buy time for Andre Johnson's return they could definitely surprise some teams and be the darkhorse for the playoffs.

11. Bad newz Kennels
Fred Jackson is the savior of this team so far this season, he accounts for about 25% of all their points scored. I thought that was Vick's job?

12. Matty ice
The lowest scoring team in the league and it's not even close. A cool 120 points below the 11th place team doesn't leave many options for where this team can go from here.

Waiver Wire Wednesday!

Waiver wire pickups went through this morning, and although the pickings are very slim teams always manage to find a few players worth taking a chance on.

  1. The big spender this week is the Bad Newz Kennels, shelling out 40 big ones for Tony Gonzo. Not a bad investment in my opinion as he has scored 4 touchdowns in the last 3 games. He doesn't get a ton of yards but he gets the redzone looks which is enough for a productive TE.

  2. For 37$ Winter is Coming picked up Ryan Torain. Probably was a little bit of an overpayment for a player of his caliber but they wanted to be sure to get him hoping to replace RB depth lost by the injury to Jamaal Charles.

  3. Bad Newz Kennels on the board again picking up Jacoby Jones for $26. With Andre Johnson out 3 weeks Jones is a lock to see an increased workload.

  4. Same goes for Isaac Redman, who went to the Polar Gooks for $20. If Rashard Mendenhall misses any time Redman with be the main beneficiary.

  5. NGGR picked up the Lions Titus Young for $16. A great pickup for a pretty low price, with Nate Burleson struggling to get targets the past few weeks it looks like Titus could possibly pass him up and move in to the starting lineup.

  6. Polar Gooks dropped the Eagles D for the 49ers D for $13. Normally I would be very skeptical of this pick because...its the 49ers. but right now they have the number 3 ranked defense NFL are first place in the NFC West, and still have plenty of games left against NFC West opponents.

  7. The Kennels added DHB for $11 dollars. Hes coming off a big 13 point week but has only scored 4 total in the other 3 weeks. He definitely has the speed to have a big game or two but im not convinced he has anything else.

  8. Kennels again with their 4th pick up of the week, snag the Titans D for 6$

  9. No surprise that 'Brees in here?' finally gives up on the banged up, young Pats D that currently ranks last in the league in Pass defense and 26th in run defense. They picked up the Texans D for $6. A good long term pickup but this week they play the Raiders, and Darren McFadden will try his best to ruin their day.

  10. The finaly waiver wire pickup this week was by the number one team in the league right now TDs 4 thumbs down. THey grab Jabar Gaffney while he is getting mor involved in the redskins offense for $6, and drop Scott Chandler, who is good at getting in the endzone but not much else.

New format for power rankings

From now on, rather than posting the power rankings in the LM notes, I am going to start posting everything here (power rankings and possibly other fun stuff too if im not too lazy) and just linking to it from the main page so I can use the LM notes for other things.

That said starting this week everyone should send me your list 1-12 of your rankings of all the teams either on text, fb message, or email and I will compile a list similar to the coaches/ap polls. Feel free to include blurbs if you want but you definitely don't have to. Hope this goes well, everyone try to send me your shit soon!

PPG This year and last year

I thought it would be funto see how much teams are scoring per game compared to last year, so I took a look at the points per game last year and here are some things I found:

  1. The highest scoring team in the regular season was Team Red JOINTZ, averaging 101.1 PPG.

  2. This is 13 PPG lower than 'Four Thumbs Down' so far this year.

  3. There are currently 4 teams averaging more points that last years highest scoring team.

  4. Last years champion 'Wacco Flacco' averaged 91.8 PPG during the regular season.

  5. There are currently 9 teams scoring equal or more points to that this year.

  6. The biggest jump in PPG goes to 'Winter Is Coming'. Going from 82.6 last year with 'Philly Chezzman' to 111 this year, the difference so far in PPG is 28.4.

    1. **Side not to this, the 'Four Thumbs Down' jumped up 32.05 PPG, up at 113 from last years 'Brady Bunch' at 81.7, but I didn't count this because of different owners.

  7. The biggest fall in PPG goes to Matty ICE, dropping from 89.5 last year to 74.75 this year, 14.75 points.

Week 3

Short one this week, haven't had any time to do the write up so consider this my bye week.

1. Polar Gooks
The highest scoring team in the league look to be in great shape. Stafford and McFadden anchor a young and impressive core of players.

2. Give Dem TD's 4 thumbs Down
The only undefeated team left in the league, and they would be even scarier if Chris Johnson were still alive.

3. Winter is Coming
Racking up a whopping 341 points through 3 weeks on the backs of the Brady-Welker tandem is a good way to win games. Could also have struck gold with Ryan Mathews as a decent replacement for Jamaal Charles.

4. Is There a Brees in here?
Losing Kenny Britt for the season definitely set this team back a step or two, but with Brees and MJD leading the charge the recovery won't be too painful.

5. Jacquizz in my Pants
Moving up two spots from their number 7 slot last week, they hope to have LeSean McCoy lead them out of the clusterfuck of 2-1 teams in the middle of the standings.

6. THE REIGNING CHAMPION
Somehow the Reigning Champs keep their spot at number 6 in the power rankings after a poor showing in week 3. The low score was an anomaly and they should be back in true form in week 4, especially with the addition of Roddy White to bolster their receiving corps.

7. The Accursed Grinder
Making the biggest jump in the standings of any team, Accursed Grinder move up 4 spots from 11 to 7 riding a huge week where they led the entire league in scoring with 123 points.

8. Value Picks
Still sitting at 2-1 and tied with almost everyone else for 2nd-6th place, Value Picks comes in ranked the lowest of all the 2-1 teams with a point total of only 250. With Aaron Rodgers and Micahel Turner leading the way anything is possible, but a boost at WR would be very nice.

9. Bad Newz Kennels
Stays at the number 9 spot almost solely because of Fred Jackson's huge play through the first 3 weeks. Injury woes continue to plague this team, but when you draft Vick, Gates, and Gore (read: Listens to Matthew Berry's advice) you must be prepared for injuries.

10. Show Me Dat Oh Face
Winless so far but just bolstered their roster with Jermichael Finley and Peyton Hillis, 2 players adept at finding the endzone. A win has to come soon, but that might be too hopeful this week against the number 1 ranked Polar Gooks.

11. Rice in Ya Vag
The only 0-3 team in the league has hit a bit of a rough patch. They actually rank 8th in points scored but are 3rd in points against, making it difficult to win many games. Philip Rivers currently ranks 17 among quarterbacks and has thrown 2 picks each game so far. Once Phil Cheese turns it around, so will this team.

12. Matty Ice
Picking up their first win of the season wasn't enough to move this team out of the basement. After an ugly 76-72 win, Matty Ice still ranks dead last in points scored by nearly 50 points, and has yet to eclipse the 200 point mark. Maybe Reggie Wayne and Matth Forte will be enough to turn this team around but I doubt it.

Week 2

WEEK 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1. Is there a Brees in here?
Sitting a top the standings at 2-0 with a whopping 236 points scored, Brees and co. look near unstoppable in the early going. Even with starting running back Steven Jackson riding the pine with a pulled hammy, they still manage to post an impressive
112-101 win over 'Winter is Coming'. Using a balanced offense which doesn't rely too heavily on one or two players, 6 different players scored in double digits. Kenny Britt has 3 touchdowns and 270 yards in 2 games and is looking very dominant, and Drew Brees continues to be Drew Brees throwing 3 touchdowns for the second straight week.
'Brees in heres' bench however leaves much to be desired. Braylon Edwards and Lee Evans both have questionable injuries as well as playing abilities and talent, Crabtree is out, and although Thomas Jones just inherited the starting running back position for Kansas City there is no evidence that that offense will be able to do anything on the ground. It will be interesting to see how this team manages once the bye weeks start to become a factor, but for now they will continue to roll.

2. Polar Gooks
Altough they are off to a 1-1 start, it has been a very impressive first two weeks for the 'Gooks'. Dominating the league in points scored with 249, they are 13 points ahead of second place and 24 points ahead of third. On that same note, they are also dominating the league in points against with 246. By comprison, team 'Value Picks' which currently ranks above the 'Gooks' in the standings, only has 143 points against them, over 100 less than the 'Gooks'. So the 1-1 record doesn't tempt me to move them down in the rankings, this is clearly a very strong team. They dropped an heartbreaker to 'Jaquizz in my pants' this week 123-122 in what may be one of the most exciting games we have all year. The 'Gooks' were up 114-100 going in to the sunday night game with DeSean Jackson and Eagles defense competing with LeSean McCoy with the game on the line. Unfortunately for the gooks who must have felt confident going in to that game, DeSean and the D combined for only 8 points and blew the lead to end up losing by 1.
Don't expect this to be a regular occurence for this team though, as Stafford, McFadden, Vincent Jackson, DeSean, and Stevie Johnson have all proved that they are capable of putting up monstrous numbers any week and could very well lead this team in a playoff run.
[image]http://vmedia.rivals.com/IMAGES/PROSPECT/PHOTO/MATTHEWSTAFFORD2150.JPG[/image]

3. Winter Is Coming
Placing two 1-1 teams ahead of the other two 2-0 teams in the league may be a little bold but I'm a homer. 'Winter is Coming' is sitting comfortably in third place in the league in points scored with 225, and that is with virtually no points scored by first round pick Jamaal Charles. He will not be scoring anymore points this year for 'Winter is Coming', he tore his ACL running out of bounds on his second carry of the day Sunday and will be kept out for the remainder of the season. A big shot to the playoff/championship hopes for this team, yes, but it is not impossible to overcome this setback. Golden Boy Tom Brady will need to carry this team all season the way he has for the first two weeks if they want to have a shot at winning. With nearly any other quarterback in the league it would be impossible to continue at this pace, but Brady is capable of posting godly numbers.
It may be a long shot without Charles, but this team has the depth, talent and heart to recover from the the loss. And Tom Brady.

4. Give Dem TD's 4 Thumbs Down
The highest scoring team of the week, 'TD's' also made the biggest jump of any team this week in the power rankings, moving fomr the 10 spot all the way up to number 4. The semi-unlikely trio of Miles Austin, Jeremy Maclin, and Cam Newton combined for a stupid 93 points, leading 'TD's' to an easy 136-109 victory. I'm still not sure what to expect from this team, but as long as Cam Newton can keep up whatever it is he is doing, this team should be in pretty good shape all year. It's scary to think how many points they can score once CJ is back at full strength and terrorizing defenses instead of his fantasy owners.
[image]https://www.ticketsolutions.com/blogs/intentional-foul/images/milesaustineyes.jpg[/image]

5. Value Picks
The lowest ranking 2-0 team, I had a hard time figuring out where to place these guys. They rank 8th in points scored and 1st in points against, so the path has been extremely easy for this team so far. But they have still managed to sneak out 2 wins, including their 98-86 victory over 'Accursed Grinder' this week, and they have a very intimidating and consistent QB/RB/RB trio. Aaron Rodgers is about as consistent as they come and is currently ranked 4th among QB's. Michael Turner is a beast with tree trunks for legs, and Legarrette Blount can hopefully continue to show his nose for the endzone that he didn't have week 1 but showcased in the second half of his week 2 game.
"Value Picks' is a little weak at receiver, especially with Mike Thomas and Percy Harvin severely unperforming expectations, so this should be addressed with a trade or waiver wire pick up.

6. THE REIGNING CHAMPION
Last year's champs are trying to prove that all they do is win, but so far this year all they've done is be very mediocre. At 1-1 and 6th in the league in scoring, theyre about as average as they come, but that could very well change in the coming weeks. They are scary strong at running back with AP capable of almost anything, and Matt Forte has been one of the best dual threat running backs in the league through the first two weeks, but the rest of the lineup has been very underwhelming. Plaxico disappeared in week 2, Big Ben hasn't been anything special, and Santana Moss/Reggie Wayne could both be very inconsistent this year with QB troubles on each of their teams. The CHAMPS are sneaky good at the specialty positions however. Thanks to Witten's 2 consecutive 100 year receiving games and the number 1 kicker in the league so far John Kasay, the CHAMPS had 7 of their 9 players scoring in double digits in the most lopsided win of the week over the hapless 'White Women'.
[image]http://www.croatianworld.net/Letters/johnKasay2.jpg[/image]

7. Jaquizz in my pants
LeSean McCoy led 'My Pants' to a thrilling victory over the 'Gooks' this weekend in what was possibly the most exciting game we could have this year. A 1 point nailbiter decided during the Sunday night game on another big day by McCoy, the best running back in the league through 2 weeks. Jhavid Best's two touchdown performance and Larry Fitzgerald's 130 yards and a TD were also great signs for players who struggled during week 1. This team is on its way up, and with solid depth on the bench could potentially thrive while other teams flounder during byes.
[image]http://www.blackvibes.com/images/bvc/35/6825-lesean-mccoy-hennessy.jpg[/image]

8. Show Me Dat Oh Face
'Oh Face' dropped a tough game this week to the up and coming 'TD's'team but there wasn't much that could be done about it. Austin, Maclin and Newton's freak performances sealed 'Oh faces' fate this weekend, but they did pretty well themselves putting up a very respectable 109 points. This total would have been enough to beat many of the teams in the league, but sometimes it comes down to the luck of the draw. 7 players scored in double digits, although I'm sure they would've liked/expected more from WB Josh Freeman.
With receivers like this team has, they have the potential to blow any team out any given week, so look for the wins to start coming soon.
[image]http://a.espncdn.com/media/motion/2010/0520/themag_100518_JoshFreeman.jpg[/image]

9. Bad Newz Kennels
The Kennels were a tough team to place at 1-0-1, but with only 172 points scored, good enough for 3rd to last, and their win this week coming with an unimpressive 85 points, i wanted to be careful not to rank them too highly. The concussion on number 1 pick Michael Vick is also a very bad sign for this team going forward as he is known for being somewhat injury prone. Fred Jackson was a pleasant surprise last week and could potentially continue to have the great statistical year that he has begun but this team will need someone else to step up as well if they want to make a serious shot at a title. Frank Gore and Antonio Gates have been less than spectacular, posting totals of 17 and 7 points respectively through the first 2 weeks.
If Vick comes back from his concussion and starts performing the way he did last year, and Mario Manningham quits dropping passes, and Frank Gore can start to get a little more out of his 20+ touches a game this team could be pretty good, but right now they have a ways to go.

10. Rice In Ya Vag
'Vag' followed up a very promising week one performance with an extremely subpar week 2 showing. Big 3 Phil Cheese, Ray Rice and Beanie Wells all showed up and scored 15 or more points a peice, but the rest of the team disappeared in to thin air like a dead character from lost. Hakeem Nicks had 7, the kicker had 6, and no one else had more than 4 points in the lineup or on the bench. Scary for this team that they are so top heavy, they may want to look in to trading for some depth if they want to be a contender.
[image]http://i.imgur.com/JLyWL.jpg[/image]

11. The Accursed Grinder
A very disappointing start so far for 'Grinder' has led to an early name and picture change. Although he is already looking forward to next year, there is a lot of potential on this team to win games this year it just hasn't all come together yet. With some smart coaching decisions this team could definitely be in the playoff hunt. RB Mike Tolbert scored 26 points in week 1 on the bench, Ben Tate scored 17 and 15 in weeks 1 and 2 on the bench both times, Willis McGahee scored 18 last week on the bench, Rob Gronkowski 20, and Arian Foster has still barely played. So although 'Grinder' is second to last in points scored with 141, there is still plenty of hope for the rest of this season if the right players are played the right weeks. Don't play for next season just yet.
[image]http://i.imgur.com/PWZ3i.jpg[/image]

12. Roddy Loves White Women
Coming off an embarrassing 113-65 loss to last years champs, 'White Women' needs to make some adjustments quickly. Ranked last in the league in scoring at a miniscule 122 points, which is more than doubled by 'Gooks' through 2 weeks, I'm not sure what's next for this team. Roddy and Rashard have not performed at all how they were expected, and Tampa Bay Mike Williams put up 1 catch for -4 yards in week 2. Those are the 3 best players on this team and they need to step up their game or I just don't see anywhere for this team to go. In their week 2 game they started 3 Washington Redskins. It was the most Redskins starting not just on one fantasy team, but in the entire fantasy league, since Clinton Portis was alive. Bottom line is if the top draft picks can figure it out and start producing this team might be pretty good, but as of right now they are frimly cemented at the bottom of the standings.
